RECEPTIONIST (Processing Facility, Hermanus)

Aqunion (Pty) Ltd is a dynamic, growing company that farms South African abalone for the Asian market. The company currently has two farms and a processing facility in the Overberg Region.   We have a position available within our Processing Facility for a competent Receptionist who has a passion for excellence.

Primary purpose of position

To manage the reception desk and provide ongoing administrative support across the organization by attending to all incoming calls and visitors; maintaining office security; attending to general office tasks and assisting other administrative personnel and managers.

Minimum Requirements & Competencies

  • Grade 12. Additional Office Management related education would be advantageous;
  • Proven work experience as a Receptionist, Office Clerk or similar role;
  • Computer literate (intermediate). Working experience of G Suite would be advantageous;
  • Hands-on experience with office equipment (e.g. printers, copier machines);
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with fluency in English;
  • Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks;
  • Professional appearance and customer service attitude.

The company currently has two farms and a processing facility in the Overberg Region.   We have a position available at our Romansbaai Farm for a competent Employee Relations Officer who has a passion for excellence.

Primary purpose of position

The overarching mission of the HR division at Aqunion is to guide the business toward an employee-oriented, high-performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, results and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.  The Employee Relations Officer will provide support to all management and staff with various human resource functions and in particular facilitate sound employee relations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (BComm HRM / Industrial Psychology or similar degree);
  • At least 5 years of professional personnel work in the areas of employer-employee relations and labour relations, staffing, salary and personnel administration – preferably in a labour intensive environment;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with fluency in English;
  • Computer literacy (intermediate) with working experience of G Suite;
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transport;
  • Contactable references are required.

FARM MANAGER (Hermanus, Western Cape)

Aqunion Whale Rock Farm, a leading producer of high quality abalone for the international export market, has an exciting opportunity available for a dynamic and innovative Farm Manager.

The Farm Manager will be expected to create conditions for operational excellence by ensuring that staff morale is high, resources are deployed effectively and efficiently and that innovation and development form a key part in day-to-day activities.

Key Performance Areas for this position include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. Company Culture: Actively create an enabling team environment where the company’s vision, mission & values are entrenched through a) the promotion of a positive, solutions-based approach and b) honest, timeous and respectful communication.
  2. Staff Motivation and Development: Take responsibility for the support, mentoring and motivation of all senior managers on site in order to create a senior management team that is competent and goal oriented.
  3. Productivity and Profitability management: Ensure that day-to-day farming activities are managed such that all resources are deployed as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible at all times, and that every effort is made to increase farm throughput and output without compromising on quality.
  4. Continuous Improvement: Drive and entrench on all farm levels the notion of continuous improvement  and ensure that Research and Development (including fields such as engineering, IT, genetics, disease identification etc.) enjoy priority status on farm.
  5. Compliance: Ensure that farm activities comply with all relevant in-house and external requirements at ALL times.
  6. Reporting and General administration: Focus on creating an enabling environment where staff feel supported whilst maintaining adequate administrative controls.

Core competencies for this position include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Business Management or Commerce. [An aquaculture qualification will be beneficial but is not compulsory].
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of business unit management: people, finance, planning, strategic.
  • A high intensity agri- or aquaculture production background will be very advantageous.
  • Fluency in English and the ability to communicate effectively and write professional reports.
  • A valid driver’s license and own reliable transport.
