South African abalone is cherished around the world for its excellent quality, taste, shape and texture. The Haliotis midae species is very unique in itself but the abalone that we produce is extra special for other reasons as well: our beautiful, pristine waters, our 100% natural farming process and our traditional processing techniques.

Pristine Waters

The famous Walker Bay waters are teeming with magnificent sea life. Whales travel thousands of miles to give birth in this safe bay and tourists flock here from all over the world to dive with great white sharks or see whales up close. It’s safe to say that this coastline is one of the most beautiful and untouched in the world. Here, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, you’ll find the natural habitat of the South African abalone. We rely on 24-hour access to this pristine water to simulate an ocean environment for our farmed abalone. Our pump-ashore flow-through system means that our animals have access to constant fresh seawater to keep them in optimum condition.

Natural Farming

Our abalone is reared with as little interference as possible with farming methods that are completely natural. Our animals are not given any growth hormones, antibiotics or other chemicals. We go the extra mile and spend the extra money to ensure that we provide our abalone with the best possible environment to grow: sufficient space, water supply, feed and a clean and hygienic environment.

Traditional Processing

Aqunion adds further value to our offering through our processing, which is done as unadulterated and natural as possible.
